Wonderful to see artist Glennys Briggs at NorthSite in Cairns and hear more about her artwork ‘Sweet Damper’ and her other works in Rite of Passage.

“Briggs is a proud Taungurung-Yorta Yorta woman, exploring her deep cultural connection to land through printmaking, painting, sculpture and installation.
Her powerful and confrontational work asks us to reflect on, and question, our shared history and relationship to this country. Screen printed possum skins in ‘Sweet damper’ (2017) reference the practice of adding arsenic to flour, as a means of mass poisoning Aboriginal people.”
Tune in tomorrow afternoon to hear Glennys and fellow artist Nici Cumpston OAM discussing their work with exhibition curator Shannon Brett.
